It\u2019s the off-season; now what? Just because it\u2019s that time of year doesn\u2019t mean you stop being a hunter!<\/span>

While it\u2019s technically the off-season, there\u2019s still plenty you can do during this time to keep yourself busy and prepare for the coming\u00a0<\/span>hunting season<\/span><\/a>. You may not be able to shoot your gun or your bow, but we like to think the off-season doesn\u2019t exist \u2014 the fun (and the work!) doesn\u2019t end when the season does. There doesn\u2019t have to be an \u201coff-season\u201d since there\u2019s always something to do, some way to keep up your skill, and to get ready for future hunts.<\/span>

What to Do During the Off-Season<\/b>

Scout All Year Long<\/b> \u2014 There\u2019s no sense waiting until late-summer to start scouting. The more time you spend in the sticks, the more you learn and understand the area and the wildlife. There\u2019s a lot to know; whether you\u2019re on site or not, the information is out there, and this information might be valuable to you.<\/span>

Stay in Shape<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 Getting in shape for a hunt can be a lot of work, so don\u2019t lose it only to have to get it back six months down the road. Whether you hit the gym a few times a week or head for the hills to take in some of Mother Nature\u2019s beauty and fresh air on a hike, staying active is critical. While you\u2019re at it, take your hunting pup along (if you have one) to keep their senses keen and their body\u2019s agile.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Perfect Your Shot<\/b> \u2014 Now is not the time to let your aim get rusty. Instead, spend time at your local shooting range or a safe (and legal) place to practice outdoors. Perfecting your shot now will help ensure a more successful season.<\/span>

Test Your Gear<\/b> \u2014 If you\u2019re like many hunters, you\u2019re probably really into hunting gear. You\u2019ve likely acquired new equipment since your last hunt and have plenty of well-loved gear you use year after year. Don\u2019t wait until the hunting season begins to test out what you\u2019ve got. Take a weekend to pack up your things and test it all out. Not only is this a fun excuse to get away for a few days, but it is very telling of how prepared you are. Do you need to replace anything? Do you need to purchase anything else? Are you as ready as you can be? A weekend away with your gear will give you all the answers you need.<\/span>

You get to enjoy some incredible views and crisp mountain air while you learn about mammal behavior, which might come in handy in your future hunts.
