Mexico Division

Two decades of in-country experience. A highly selective, limited-entry program for trophy mule deer, Coues deer, and desert bighorn sheep in Sonora.

R&K Hunting Company Mexico Division

For many people, it may come as a surprise that my experience hunting in Mexico started several years before the formation of R&K Hunting Company.

I began hunting Mexico with friends Rich LaRocco and Gary Anderson a few years before Mr. Kimbell and I officially started R&K. What started as personal hunting trips eventually evolved into taking small groups of hunters over the next five to ten years. During that time, I wasn’t simply learning how to hunt Mexico — I was learning how the country itself operates.

That process meant understanding far more than wildlife and hunting areas. It meant understanding road systems, landowners, local guides, cooks, local law enforcement, federal checkpoints, the National Guard, U.S. Fish & Wildlife procedures, firearm permitting through the State of Sonora, and the logistics required to safely move hunters and equipment across borders and through remote areas.

Twenty-plus years ago, hunting operations in Mexico looked very different than they do today. While there were certainly good people involved, professionalism, organization, equipment standards, food service, timelines, and overall expectations were often very different than what most American hunters were accustomed to.

I quickly realized that if I was ever going to build something there, it would need to meet the same standards our hunters expected from us in the United States.

What real hunters say about their experience

Built With Jesus Murillo

Mexico requires strong local partnerships. Managing permits, landowner relationships, government agencies, logistics, and day-to-day operations requires people on the ground full-time.

Like anything worth building, there were lessons learned along the way. When MX Hunting Company was first created, I partnered with a local individual. Ultimately that experience reinforced just how critical the right people are to building a successful operation in Mexico.

Today, with my partner Jesus Murillo, we have built a team and operational structure that few hunting companies can match.

Jesus was born and raised in Mexico and brings invaluable local knowledge, relationships, and understanding of the country. He came into the partnership with prior experience running his own businesses as well as operating cattle and sheep ranches. His knowledge of land management, ranch operations, and the people and culture of Mexico has been a tremendous asset.

Combined with our years of experience in hunting operations, logistics, and understanding what American hunters expect, we have developed a system that runs smoothly from beginning to end.

After years of refinement, the timing is now right to bring the R&K division to Mexico.

Safety, Trust & Local Knowledge

Whenever people hear about hunting in Mexico, one of the first questions that comes up is safety. We believe it is important to address directly.

Areas We Will Not Operate

Like any country, including the United States, there are areas where we simply will not operate. We do not chase opportunities in unstable regions, even when the hunting may be good.

Decades of Trusted Relationships

Over the years we have established long-standing relationships with landowners, local communities, local guides, local law enforcement, and the key contacts necessary to safely and effectively operate in remote areas.

Logistics Coordinated in Advance

Before our hunters arrive, logistics are coordinated well in advance — travel plans, firearm procedures, local operations, and transportation routes.

Our first responsibility is providing an exceptional experience while maintaining the safety and comfort of our hunters. Because of that, we are now bringing the R&K brand to Mexico.

Selective Hunts. Premium Experiences.

R&K Mexico will remain a highly selective, limited-entry program focused on premium experiences and a small number of hunters each year — on carefully selected ranches and limited dates.

Wildlife Management

UMA Programs & Permit Allocation

Many hunters are unfamiliar with how wildlife management and permit allocation work in Mexico. Properties participate in UMA (Unidad de Manejo para la Conservación de Vida Silvestre) programs which manage wildlife populations through habitat improvement, conservation efforts, and monitored game populations.

Based upon animal populations, habitat conditions, and management objectives, properties receive permit allocations and tags for species including Mule Deer, Coues Deer, Desert Bighorn Sheep, and White-tailed Deer.

Some of our Desert Bighorn opportunities will involve newer UMA programs that we believe have tremendous long-term potential. In addition to our fair chase opportunities, we will also offer a limited number of estate hunts for Mule Deer, Coues Deer, and Desert Bighorn Sheep — only through carefully chosen properties that meet the standards of the R&K program.

Hunt Style & Management

How We Hunt the Desert

Hunting styles in Mexico can differ significantly from what many hunters are accustomed to in Western states. Our mule deer hunts may involve:

  • High-racking and covering large areas efficiently
  • Extensive glassing from elevated vantage points
  • Spot-and-stalk opportunities
  • Tracking mature bucks after favorable conditions such as rain
  • Long periods behind optics locating and evaluating animals

Depending on the property and management strategy, some ranches may also utilize supplemental feeding programs and deer feeders as part of their overall wildlife management plans — designed to support herd health, improve nutrition, and meet overall game management goals.

Due to Justin’s background with precision rifle systems and long-range hunting applications, we maintain high-quality firearm and optics systems for hunters who choose not to travel with their own equipment. Hunters are also welcome to bring their own firearm, and our team assists with the permitting process required for travel into Mexico.
